Our chosen artist: Joint Honours

Joint Honours

Joint Honours are a four piece band from Derby, United Kingdom. Their music is best described as encompassing sounds from across pop rock and rap resulting in an amalgamation of several different genres, from The Streets right through to The Beach Boys. Consisting of members David Jackson, Simon Marles, Adam Stone and Max Chambers, in January 2013, They released their first self made EP and Music Video to Red Sky Lullaby that starred Sky One’s Bendy Kate from Got to Dance. April 2014 sees the release of our second EP Lucky Number 8.

The genre

Their style of music isn't a set stereotypical genre. They have comprised three key genres of pop, rock and rap to make their own style of music. The music is very chilled out and I would associate the artist with students who go to university and people who like variety. Their music makes the audience feel happy as it is up beat. The acoustic guitar is essential in their pieces of work and so are the vocals, they really help to capture the audiences attention and emotion.

Pop-rap (also known as pop rap or hip pop) is a genre of music fusing the rhythm-based lyricism of hip hop music with pop music's preference for melodious vocals and catchy tunes, which gained mainstream popularity during the 1990s. The lyrics are often light hearted, with choruses similar to what's heard in pop music. The influences and roots of pop rap trace back to late 1980s hip hop artists, such as Run DMC, LL Cool J, and Beastie Boys.
